Study criticises makers of children’s shoes

Poorly-fitting shoes damage children’s feet. A recently published research paper is stepping on manufacturers’ toes.

Little feet are sensitive, and kids’ shoes protect them from injury, cold and heat. While it’s nice if they look good, too, manufacturers often overlook one important aspect: If children’s shoes don’t fit properly, kids’ podiatric health is at risk.

Measuring Day for Kids’ Feet in Ireland

The research team is back on the road this spring, holding Measuring Days for Kids’ Feet. We’ll be holding one in Ireland (Brannockstown) on Sunday , June 21st . In cooperation with the Camphill Community Dunshane House, parents have the opportunity to have the fit of their children’s shoes tested free of cost. Where and when: Camphill Community Dunshane House, Brannockstown, near Naas Co. Kildare, 9 am to 5 pm.

Poor little feet: Are house shoes a health risk?

Do children’s house shoes fit properly? This question was the subject of a study conducted on pre-school and elementary school children by an Austrian research team, commissioned by the Ministry for Health. The results: The smallest kids have the worst fitting shoes.

Finding children’s shoes that fit can be a daunting task, as many parents know. Austrian researchers have now debunked seven common myths about kids’ shoes. Their guidelines will be published by the Austrian Family Ministry on 1 March 2009 under www.eltern-bildung.at.

Research on children’s shoes: Labeled shoe sizes misleading

How well do kids’ shoes really fit? This is the question an Austrian research team investigated in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein by conducting 42 public “Measuring Day” events for children. The sobering results: over 50% of the children tested wear shoes that are too short for their feet. The highest percentage of children in poorly-fitting shoes was found in Germany.
